Samgyetang: Koreans Favorite dish in Hot summer

Samgyetang primarily consists of a whole young chicken and Korean ginseng. Samgyetang is traditionally served in the summer for its supposed nutrients, which replaces those lost through excessive sweating and physical exertion during the hot summers in Korea.

To make samgyetang, a whole young chicken is stuffed with glutinous rice and boiled in a broth of Korean ginseng, dried seeded jujube fruits, garlic, and ginger. Depending on the recipe, other medicinal herbs such as Astragalus propinquus (hwanggi), wolfberry (gugija), Codonopsis pilosula (dangsam), and Angelica sinensis (danggwi) may also be added.

Proteins, minerals, and hormones from the whole chicken mixed with the beneficial properties of the ingredients combined in the dish makes it a revered culinary item in South Korea. Only whole uncut ingredients are used for the dish, as they are believed to preserve the maximum amount of nutrients.

Many Koreans enjoy it on three specific days in summer: "Chobok" (초복), "Jungbok" (중복), and "Malbok" (말복), which Koreans believe to be the hottest and most sultry of the year. Food with high nutrient content is eaten to regain the loss of stamina in the summer heat, and samgyetang is a favorite dish.

Seoul Walking Tour

SEOUL WALKING TOUR

A month ago Korea Tourism Organization launched a smart phone application named Seoul Walking Tour. what this application does is help you while roaming around central part of Seoul city. As this application is just launched so it mainly covers area of City hall, Gwanghwamun and Insa-dong etc.
If you start this application it will show you a user friendly map showing pictures of places on the map for easy understanding. You can see this home page below.

You can also access your phone camera from this application directly to take pictures. It's actually quite feasible to take pictures while using this application. Another tab in this application shows the travel info. You can call 1330 the hotline for travel information any time, any day while travelling in Seoul. They can provide you information in 4 major languages.

Following this option we can find attractions in this area. This tab shows different places to visit and then further shows complete details about its history and you can also access to the map from the page to get the directions.

MY TRAVEL COMPANION:

I have used this application for few attractions listed in above picture but I am going to write little about one of them, Gwanghwamun square. I accessed to it through main menu where it was showing picture of the King Sejong. I learned few things about Joseon Dynasty and King Sejong. I took few pictures from outside of Gwanghwamun square. How to go there? Just click on the king Sejong picture on main menu and you will get this screen as map.

This is the best place for kids and many other people in this weather. They came here after work (like me) and sit and enjoy talk with fellows and watch little kids playing in water fountain.
